We are expanding the product team responsible for determining what intelligence can be derived from AP reporting, how we know it is useful and reliable, and which capabilities should become scalable products.

The Role

We are seeking an intellectually curious, highly analytical Research Product Manager to lead research and product definition for emerging AP Intelligence capabilities. This is a 0→1 individual contributor role. Much of the work begins before there is a roadmap—and sometimes before the precise product problem is fully understood.

You will turn broad questions into structured hypotheses, research plans and experiments; investigate them using data, customer conversations and lightweight prototypes; and translate what you learn into clear product decisions and requirements.

Here, “research” means structured product investigation: framing unanswered questions, working directly with data and product outputs, testing hypotheses, evaluating results and learning from customers.

This is not a traditional feature-delivery PM role. You will help discover the problems, define the products and establish the frameworks that allow engineering teams to build them.

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the development and delivery of AP's consumer-facing products.

This is a technically hands-on leadership role in a fast-growing direct-to-consumer environment. You will lead a distributed team of engineers, working alongside vendor partners, and own AP's consumer platform end to end. Partner with Product, Design, Editorial, QA, Security, and Revenue to turn roadmap initiatives into executable plans.

Keep the team focused on outcomes, making decisions quickly and steering effort toward the work that matters most.

Coach engineers through 1:1s, career conversations, and pairing, growing ownership and raising the technical bar across the team.

Who you are

6+ years building and operating consumer-facing web and mobile applications and the backend systems behind them, including time in a technical leadership or engineering management role.

Experience as a player-coach, staying technically close enough to review, prototype, and unblock while leading a team and owning delivery.

A product-minded approach to engineering, with system design judgment that balances speed, scalability, and maintainability.

Hands-on experience with AI development tools, and a considered view of where agentic workflows help a team most.

Strong in TypeScript and React with a modern meta-framework (Next.js or equivalent), plus depth in at least one modern server-side language (TypeScript/Node, Go, Python, Java, or Kotlin). Working familiarity with native iOS and Android release processes.

Experienced designing and evolving GraphQL APIs across multiple client surfaces.

Fluent in headless and structured content modeling, and in how editorial workflows and publishing states map to content types and downstream APIs.

Deep experience with modern CI/CD: automated pipelines, feature flags and staged rollouts, quality gates that catch problems before release, and dependable rollback.

Experience optimizing performance and diagnosing production issues in high-traffic, ad-supported environments, supported by good observability practice.

The Associated Press seeks an energetic journalist with a proven track record of breaking world-class investigative stories. The reporter will join a team committed to uncovering hidden stories around power and politics, working with other Investigative team members, Washington staff and the wider AP. This is a staff position covered by AP’s agreement with the News Media Guild.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Washington investigations editor, you will seek out distinct, "Only on AP" journalism in all media formats. You will think creatively about how best to tell stories on mobile, digital and social media platforms, including how to integrate data used in investigations into a story’s ultimate presentation.

We're looking for someone who will:

Initiate investigations focused on government and corporate accountability and/or national security matters.
Know how to use public records laws and have a network of sources around the nation’s capital. You can tap into the city’s legion of lobbyists and lawyers who wield power behind the scenes.
Have a great news sense, with a high metabolism and a hunger for scoops.
Be able to turn around deep journalism in a couple of days while making progress on months-long projects.
Pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques, including the use of artificial intelligence, while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
Be willing and able to work at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence as an investigative reporter or editor, with a strong record of delivering exclusive and distinctive investigative reporting on both breaking news and long-term investigative projects.
Prior experience as a beat reporter or investigative reporter in Washington is a plus.
You must be able to work effectively as a member of a team, with a proven track record of working with colleagues on other desks from the outset of stories and projects, collaborating throughout the reporting and editing process to deliver compelling, distinctive, visually-rich journalism in all formats.
Applicants must be able to explain complex stories in clear and compelling ways, and do so swiftly and accurately on tight deadlines.
