In this role, you will shape and curate real-time coverage for APNews.com, connecting audiences to our journalism through live blogs that are timely, visually compelling and highly engaging. You will collaborate across teams to coordinate live video streams and clips from major events, including breaking news, political speeches, awards shows and ongoing daily coverage.

This role is part of AP’s deliberate expansion of its live blog presence. You will work alongside colleagues in U.S. cities and London and play a key role in scaling this growing area of our journalism.

This role is an individual contributor and will report to our News Editor (Head of live blogs).

What you will do:

Plan, execute and edit live blogs for breaking news events ensuring real-time updates are timely, accurate and relevant

Promote and implement best practices in live blogging across AP’s global news gathering and production teams

Collaborate with reporters, editors and contributors to maintain a cohesive narrative and compelling presentation

Commission and curate visual elements — photos, video and graphics — to strengthen text-based updates

Coordinate live video streams and clips for key moments in breaking news and major events

Monitor reader interactions and audience signals to foster engagement and respond quickly

Optimize live blogs for search by updating SEO fields, headlines and display elements in real time

Track performance metrics to refine live blog strategies and improve audience reach

Ensure all content meets AP standards for accuracy, clarity, fairness and timeliness

Lead training sessions for editors and reporters on live blog best practices and CMS usage

Who you are:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

At least three to five years of experience in digital journalism or live news production

Demonstrated experience in digital journalism, live coverage or other real-time digital news formats
Exceptional news judgment and ability to make fast, accurate editorial decisions under deadline pressure
Strong writing and editing skills with a proven ability to produce clear, accurate and engaging copy on tight deadlines
Familiarity with best practices in SEO, social media strategy and audience engagement
Experience using content management systems
Strong collaboration skills across text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics teams
Proven ability to manage multiple live events and competing priorities simultaneously

Salary & Benefits: 

This position is covered by The Associated Press’ contract with the News Media Guild, which provides for an annual salary for Class A staff of between $53,477 and $85,214 based on location and years of professional experience. Compensation is contingent on a job candidate’s skills, qualifications and market location. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan and employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.

AP Intelligence is building a new intelligence layer on top of AP’s global reporting—transforming verified journalism into structured facts, events, entities, relationships and signals that machines and people can use in real time.

By combining AP’s firsthand reporting, editorial standards, historical depth and global reach with modern data and AI infrastructure, AP Intelligence creates machine-readable intelligence that can be integrated into models, applications and decision systems.

We are expanding the product team responsible for determining what intelligence can be derived from AP reporting, how we know it is useful and reliable, and which capabilities should become scalable products.

The Role

We are seeking an intellectually curious, highly analytical Research Product Manager to lead research and product definition for emerging AP Intelligence capabilities. This is a 0→1 individual contributor role. Much of the work begins before there is a roadmap—and sometimes before the precise product problem is fully understood.

You will turn broad questions into structured hypotheses, research plans and experiments; investigate them using data, customer conversations and lightweight prototypes; and translate what you learn into clear product decisions and requirements.

Here, “research” means structured product investigation: framing unanswered questions, working directly with data and product outputs, testing hypotheses, evaluating results and learning from customers.

This is not a traditional feature-delivery PM role. You will help discover the problems, define the products and establish the frameworks that allow engineering teams to build them.

The role does not have direct reports at the outset, but offers significant ownership and visibility. As AP Intelligence grows, its scope may expand based on business needs and the individual’s strengths and interests, including deeper product leadership, domain ownership or people leadership.

What You’ll Do

Research, Prototype & Evaluate

Lead research into ambiguous product questions across event intelligence, structured news data, knowledge graphs, real-time information and AI systems.

Turn questions such as “What makes an event important?” or “How should we measure whether a signal is reliable and useful?” into hypotheses, experiments and evaluation frameworks.

Work hands-on with AP datasets and product outputs, using tools such as SQL, Python, notebooks, LLMs and lightweight prototypes to test ideas.

Design benchmarks and evaluation methods for dimensions such as accuracy, timeliness, confidence, relevance and usefulness.

Identify patterns that can become scalable schemas, taxonomies, scoring systems and product capabilities.

Define Products & Influence the Roadmap

Translate research into clear product concepts, requirements and recommendations engineering teams can build.

Define how concepts such as event importance, impact, velocity, provenance and confidence become useful AP Intelligence capabilities.

Partner with engineering and applied AI teams to identify failure modes, improve product quality and move promising ideas from prototype to production.

Use evidence to recommend which ideas should advance, change or stop and to inform AP Intelligence priorities.

Learn With Customers & Lead Across Disciplines

Work directly with prospective customers and design partners to understand workflows, test emerging concepts and determine where AP Intelligence creates meaningful value.

Assess not only whether a capability is technically possible, but whether customers will integrate it, rely on it and pay for it.

Partner closely with journalists, engineers, AI teams, commercial teams and senior leaders.

Synthesize editorial, technical, customer and commercial perspectives into clear decisions and communicate complex ideas to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Who You Are

We expect strong candidates to bring many, but not necessarily all, of the following:

6+ years of relevant professional experience, including significant experience in product management, data products, AI/ML products, applied research, search/information systems or another highly analytical product environment. We care more about demonstrated 0→1 product ownership and judgment than a conventional career path.

A strong track record of taking ambiguous problems and independently turning them into structured questions, experiments and product recommendations.

Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking, with an ability to find patterns in complex information and develop clear points of view from incomplete evidence.

Strong technical and data fluency. You do not need to be a production engineer, but should be comfortable exploring datasets, interrogating outputs and building lightweight analyses or prototypes.

Familiarity with structured or semi-structured data and areas such as APIs, taxonomies, ontologies, knowledge graphs, search, retrieval or related information systems.

Working knowledge of modern AI systems and concepts, including LLMs, RAG, embeddings, information retrieval, structured outputs and model evaluation.

Strong product and customer judgment, including the ability to distinguish an interesting research problem from a capability customers will use and value.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort working across engineering, AI, journalism, commercial teams and senior leadership.

Experience with AI/ML products, knowledge graphs, search/retrieval, real-time or event-driven data, intelligence platforms, AI evaluation, financial/risk/geopolitical information products, or early-stage 0→1 environments is especially relevant, but not required.

Production Coordinator (London, GB)

Why this role matters:
The Associated Press is seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Coordinator to join the AP Content Services team, the commercial arm of the Associated Press, reporting to the Head of Production. The coordinator plays a key role in day-to-day administration and management operations for content services, photo and video assignment sales.

What you will do: You will work with internal and external contacts across various departments, including sales, marketing, finance, accounts receivable and legal. Your duties include the collection of assignment details from sales managers and clients, creation and updating of assignment briefs, call sheets, assisting with crew selection, communicating shoot requirements to production teams, communicating directly with clients to understand their requirements and also budgets and pricing, delivering the generated content to clients and reconciling billing and cost reports. You will also:

Log and keep track of new projects, vendors and clients.
Track revenue and costs.
Support the production team in handling invoicing and billing enquiries relating to freelancers and crews being used for assignments.
Assist on draft budgets, production schedules and workflows.
