The Associated Press seeks a videojournalist with a history of successful television and online video storytelling to join its new Global Religion team as a video producer, to be based in Washington, D.C.

 

Reporting to the Global Religion editor, this video producer will produce, write and edit video stories about religion and faith around the world for AP’s broadcast, digital and mobile customers and platforms. The successful candidates will use video, graphics and editing techniques to deliver visually engaging journalism, working in close collaboration with the Global Religion team’s field videojournalist, freelance journalists and AP’s all formats staff in bureaus worldwide. This video producer will plan for both upcoming events and unexpected breaking news, search for new and unique ways to promote the best of AP’s video on its customer, consumer and social media platforms, and will lead discussions about video-driven projects and storytelling. This producer must have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

 

The successful candidate will:

  • have a demonstrated history of success as a video journalist and or/ field video producer, with a record of creating and delivering compelling work on deadline that is illuminating and entertaining.
  • work among a team of journalists, reporters and editors in all media formats to deliver spot news and video-driven enterprise about religion and faith that breaks news, has impact and is exclusive to AP.
  • interact with AP’s customer desk and planning editors to ensure up-to­-date information about AP’s video report in available to customers in real time.
  • have strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.
  • have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate visual stories that people will want to share, like and talk about on social media and other platforms.
  • pursue innovative coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.

 

Qualifications: This producer must have demonstrated excellence as a video journalist and/or field video producer, as well as a deep familiarity with faith and religion and a record of creating and/or guiding exclusive and distinctive video to publication. The successful candidate will have proven technical skills in television and online video production, including knowledge of live video operations and satellite, fiber and FTP transmission, as well as editing non-linear videos, preferably with Adobe Premiere. The successful candidate must be able to work swiftly and accurately under tight deadlines, and help others to do so, and have the ability plan and complete longer-term projects. The successful candidate should have at least three years of full-time experience as a video journalist or video producer at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.

 

Other qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Authorization to work in U.S. will be mandatory.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.
  • Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in non-linear video editing.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on a complex, challenging story lines.
