Why this role matters:
The Associated Press seeks a skilled seeks a skilled leader with a strong background in journalism or research to join the AP Elections team as our first international elections manager. In this role, you will help launch a new AP product delivering results of elections for head of government and national legislatures in leading democracies around the world. You will lead a team that collects and delivers these results to customers in the U.S. and globally, including overseeing quality control efforts and pre-election data testing. This administrative role is based in Washington, D.C.
What you will do:
- Reporting to the Director of Elections Operations, you'll lead researchers and software engineers, collaborating with data scientists, developers, journalists and others to collect and deliver fact-based, nonpartisan election results from selected nations.
- Working with the Elections Technology team, you will help design AP's tools to perform that work, conduct and supervise research, data collection, quality control, testing and related efforts to report international election results as they occur.
- Build and maintain relationships with elections data providers, officials and others involved in reporting election results in democratic nations worldwide.
- Place customer needs at the heart of every effort, designing collection tools and delivery platforms that exceed expectations.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and collaborate with AP journalists across text, photo, video, audio, digital, social, interactive, and graphics formats.
- Pursue innovative and inclusive coverage while upholding AP’s standards for integrity and fact-based, nonpartisan journalism.
Who you are (Required):
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as five years full-time at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online outlet, or AP bureau or regional desk, or requisite experience in nonpartisan election research.
- Able to work in the U.S. or obtain permission to do so.
- Advanced professional competency in written and spoken English; proficiency in other languages is a decided plus.
- Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends, as AP operates 24/7 and polls often close after business hours.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver success on complex storylines.
- You must be able to effectively communicate and coordinate with AP staff throughout the company and AP customers worldwide.

Salary & Benefits:
The anticipated salary range for this position is $120,000-$135,000, based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications and location. The Associated Press offers comprehensive benefits, which include:
