Location: Warsaw, PL

Company: Associated Press

The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.

The Associated Press seeks a talented multiformat journalist to cover Poland and the wider Northern Europe region as an English language reporter.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Northern Europe news director and based in Warsaw, this reporter will work closely with AP colleagues in Northern Europe, AP’s Europe Africa region and across the globe, aiming to produce distinct, deeply reported and visually driven journalism from Poland and AP’s northern Europe region (including the Nordic and Baltic nations, and German-speaking countries). In this role, you will be comfortable working in and working with multiple media formats, including shooting video and photos for both breaking and enterprise stories. You must be a self-starter who can generate ideas that resonate in Poland, elsewhere in Europe and around the world. The position will involve occasional travel, and you should be prepared to do so on short notice as news needs arise.

We’re looking for someone who will:

  • demonstrate a history of successful text reporting – with a record of producing compelling work on deadline – and feature stories that are illuminating and impactful.
  • have a broad and deep understanding of current issues in Poland and a familiarity of other countries in the region, including the Nordic and Baltic nations and German-speaking countries.
  • translate that knowledge into producing compelling and distinctive stories.
  • have strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.
  • have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate stories that people will want to share on social media and other platforms.
  • pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
  • be able and willing to work any shift, including at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English and Polish.
  • Basic proficiency in capturing photos and video is required. Advanced proficiency is a strong advantage.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines.

Preferred Qualifications: You must have demonstrated excellence as a journalist with a deep record of delivering exclusive, enlightening and distinctive stories. You must be able to quickly shift subject-matter and geographic gears, allowing you to consistently break news and report enterprise that offers readers and viewers an illuminating look at developing issues in Poland and the northern Europe region. Applicants must be able to speak, read and understand both English and Polish fluently and should have at least three years' experience working for daily newspapers, broadcast stations, online or digital news outlets, or an AP bureau or regional desk.

We’ll consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use a cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role. Please also provide examples of published work, including visual work.

Application Deadline:  June 6, 2025 at 11:59PM ET
