Job Summary


The Associated Press seeks a talented video journalist based in London to work on our Horizons product, which provides video stories covering lifestyle, health, science, and technology.  As a news agency, our primary focus is to get the right stories to our customers so they can edit them in their own style and brand, so the majority of video edits will be semi-produced for this B2B market. A proportion of work will be to create a polished, produced edit for a digital audience via AP platforms.  This job reports to the Head of Video Content Development – Horizons Television News.





  • Will set up their own stories, and then produce, shoot, edit and script content for AP’s global customer base.
  • Write a text version of their stories and work collaboratively across departments and teams.
  • Turn around fast shoots and edits, and a have flair for writing clear, crisp scripts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues working in other formats including text and photos, in order to ensure we deliver a multi-format offering of stories to customers.
  • Have a clear understanding of the digital needs of customers, and what story elements we need to supply to address that, as well as addressing the needs of our major broadcast customers worldwide.
  • Have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate and drive stories that people will want to share, like and talk about on social media and other platforms.
  • Pursue innovative and unique ways to cover stories for video while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
  • As a news organization we expect our teams to be able to react to breaking news, which means having the ability and willingness to work on overnight and weekends as AP is a 24/7 operation.




Person Specification:


  • Experience as a video journalist or video producer at a broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, daily newspaper or an AP bureau or regional desk.
  • Have a proven track record as a video producer and camera operator in creating and delivering compelling work on deadline that is illuminating and entertaining.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with reporters, photographers, video journalists and editors to identify opportunities for visual-focused storytelling and unique social promotion.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines, juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on a complex, challenging story lines and longer-term projects.
  • Work well as a team player as part of AP’s diverse team of journalists.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.






  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Technical skills in television and online video production, including knowledge of camera work, edit filing and live transmission.
  • Experience of editing videos, preferably with Adobe Premiere.
  • Experience using social media and other platforms, including pursuit of UGC.
