The Associated Press seeks an enterprising journalist with a proven track record of identifying, verifying and sourcing user-generated content to join our global team and work as a producer in Bangkok or London. This is a temporary position ending December 31, 2026.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will work to source, acquire, validate and produce user generated content around daily news and set piece events that meets AP’s editorial standards. You will regularly use AP Verify, AP’s verification and collaboration platform, and you’ll provide technical feedback and contribute to training staff in using AP Verify. You will be comfortable working in multiple media formats and must have the ability and willingness to work any shift, including at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

We’re looking for someone who will:  

• demonstrate superior technical skills in searching for and verifying the authenticity of user-generated content, in both static environments and the chaos of breaking news;
• share best practices and techniques of working with UGC with colleagues, based on AP standards and policy;
• share information in real time with those who need it within the AP, to include in the text report, or to plan further coverage;
• be full of ideas for new ways of telling stories based on the UGC, verification and OSINT work we’re doing;
• work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics;
• have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate and drive stories that people will want to share, like and talk about on social media and other platforms;
• pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least two years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or at an AP bureau or regional desk. 
• Authorization to work in the UK or Thailand will be mandatory.
• Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines.

Preferred Qualifications: This producer must have demonstrated experience as a journalist with a record of verifying, sourcing and securing UGC. You must be creative and persistent, have a strong attention to detail and an understanding of the news industry, including OSINT and production techniques. Experience working with developers, external customers and partners is a plus. Applicants must be able to work effectively as a member of a team.
