The Associated Press is looking for an Integration and Technical Support Specialist to help enhance its newsroom production software. The successful candidate will be someone who demonstrates experience in designing and/or delivering API-first architectures. You will be part of a small team that will coordinate with partner vendors to ensure proper integrations using the API. Aside from handling partner vendor management, this person will also perform testing activities along with the rest of the team.

 

This person will collaborate with other project teams to define the system architecture, security, and management of RESTful API's. As our projects scale to include more applications, you will collaborate, document, and present system architectures that are scalable, maintainable, and well performing.

 

We are looking for someone who thrives on innovation and is a self-starter. This specialized role will require clear communication skills as you will be in contact with various representatives of other vendors. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Decipher and respond to partner vendor escalations
  • Assist with unit testing and regression testing
  • Develop, test, deploy and support integrations as a member of the technology solutions team, primarily focusing on use of the API.
  • Participate in the evaluation of AP’s current ENPS and related software (web, mobile, backend) for potential areas of improvement and transformation related to stability, agility, security and fit for future roadmap.
  • Translate user and editorial requirements into architectural vision and implementation details

 

Qualifications

  • Recent, demonstrable, hands-on proficiency with the following technologies:
    • Must-Have
      • Support or Client-facing experience
      • Quality Assurance experience
      • Exposure to .net, xml, and PostMan
      • Software Development Experience such as: TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Java, Ruby, etc
      • Understanding of various methods of authentication via APIs (PKI, OAuth, JWT, etc) and authorization (LDAP, SAML, etc)
      • Understanding of core principles of cloud architectures and experience with AWS and/or Azure Dev Ops

 

    • Desirable
      • Experience in RESTful API design, development, and consumption or experience with Networking, Tools Integration or Technology Architecture
      • Ability to identify performance issues at the app, API, and data tiers, as well as offer solutions for improvement
      • Ability to gather, define and document technical requirements for developer implementation

Other qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or another related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on a complex, challenging project.

  

 

The successful candidate may work on a hybrid schedule based in the London, Washington, D.C. or New York offices or any U.S. city with an AP office.
