Role Description  

The SVP, HR is a member of the Executive team.  This individual will have oversight for all Human Resources functions across AP globally and will provide guidance and counsel across all divisions. The SVP, HR will be a highly strategic Human Resources executive who leads a global team of HR professionals that cultivates a modern, people-centered company culture in support of AP’s mission.   


Responsibilities   

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the President & CEO.  

  • Represent the strategic human resources and global cultural perspective in executive discussions and propose and/or collaborate on best solutions for AP overall.   

  • Oversee a diverse and distributed team of HR leaders to deliver superior services that support internal business stakeholders and help them meet business objectives.   

  • Provide leadership to and guide the development of functional strategies for direct reports, including implementing initiatives, monitoring goals and projects, and using analytics to track outcomes.   

  • Deliver against company strategy in the areas of HR data analytics, benefits, compensation, labor and employee relations, employe engagement, learning and development, DEIB and talent management.   

  • Provide senior level partnership, advice, consultation and intelligence, including external trends, on all aspects of organizational effectiveness to business leaders.   

  • Ensure policies, procedures and practices are implemented (defined and developed where appropriate) consistently and efficiently globally across the company.  Ensure compliance with local laws, governmental filings and labor agreements, working with general counsel’s office and auditors as required. 

  • Partner with global senior leaders to strengthen the leadership pipeline and succession planning efforts through coaching, consulting and L&D efforts.  

  • Act as a strategic partner, diversity champion and change management leader to implement programs that positively impact business results and foster a high-performing, inclusive culture.  


Experience & Qualifications   

  • Bachelor’s degree, with MBA, legal degree or MA in relevant discipline preferred.   

  • 10+ years of professional HR leadership, with experience working globally and familiarity with cultures outside of the US and non-US labor practices.   

  • Progressive human resources leadership experience, preferably in a news, content and/or media business with global scale and complexity.   

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, driven by mission and understands the importance of independent journalism.  

  • Strong business acumen and excellent knowledge of global human resources practices and procedures.   

  • Proven ability to build, maintain and influence relationships with peers and global senior leaders across divisions, and ability to effectively engage with employees at all levels of the organization.  

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills and judgement in support of the delivery of goals and initiatives as it relates to people.  

  • Strong business acumen and HR leadership experience - proven track record of acting as a strategic HR business partner with senior leadership and expertise in multiple HR disciplines (employee relations, benefits, L&D, labor, etc.). Ability to anticipate business needs and develop HR strategies to meet short and long-term business needs.  

  • A highly collaborative, transparent leader who builds authentic relationships across the organization.   

  • Forward-thinking and creative problem solver. Exceptional communicator; experience presenting to a board of directors a plus.  

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.  

  • Excellent facilitation, negotiation, employee relations and conflict resolution skills.  

  • Familiarity with multiple HR systems; experience with SAP a plus.   

  • Excellent written/oral communication and presentation skills.
