Opportunity: We are seeking a highly motivated and organized project manager to join AP’s global People Team. This early-career role offers an excellent opportunity for someone eager to build a career by gaining hands-on experience in project management, with a focus on identifying and executing on process and operational efficiencies. The project manager will work across the People Team to ensure that priorities and projects are aligned, tasks are assigned and tracked effectively, and initiatives are executed efficiently. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, flexibility and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.  We welcome both remote and hybrid candidates for this role. If you reside in a city where we have an office (NYC, Chicago, DC, Los Angeles, Atlanta, etc.), we kindly ask that you be comfortable with a hybrid work arrangement.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate People Team projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with department priorities and business goals. 

  • Track and manage project timelines, deliverables and assigned tasks across the global team, providing senior leadership with progress updates using data and dashboards. 

  • Collaborate with People Team leadership and team members to support workforce planning, talent management, employee engagement and other strategic initiatives. 

  • Facilitate communication between People Team teams and other divisions to ensure seamless and successful project execution, across time zones and geographies. 

  • Maintain project documentation, reports and dashboards to provide visibility into project progress and key milestones. 

  • Identify potential roadblocks and recommend solutions to keep projects on track. 

  • Areas this role will cover: end-to-end employee experience from recruiting and onboarding through offboarding, benefits, compensation, HRIS policy development and organizational development. 

  • Analyze business processes within the People Team to identify efficiencies and opportunities for risk reduction, automation and process improvement, and develop and execute on implementation plans. 

  • Continuously evaluate project outcomes and provide recommendations for future improvements. 

  • Collaborate with People Team to develop easy-to-use documentation for managers and staff on processes and systems. 

  • Support People Team programs related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, ensuring alignment with AP’s mission and values. 

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and contribute insights to drive People Team initiatives forward, with a focus on data-informed decision-making.  

  • Act as a point of contact for project-related inquiries and provide timely and effective resolutions. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Driven by mission and understands the importance of independent journalism. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field preferred. 

  • 1-3 years of experience in project management, HR coordination or a related role (internships and academic projects considered). 

  • Strong interest in building a career in human resources with a focus on strategic initiatives and operations. 

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across time zones. 

  • Confident and clear communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. 

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset. 

  • Willingness to learn, take initiative and adapt in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Experience with project management tools or HR software. 

  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. 

  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.

Salary & Benefits: The anticipated salary range for this position is $66,000 – $73,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors. The Associated Press offers comprehensive benefits which include:
