Based in Paris, France, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for our local Human Resources activities in France, Belgium & Italy. This is a generalist role supporting our bureaus and news operations as well as providing local guidance for Global HR projects. The role supports the management of the daily operations and works in partnership with the our Human Resources group to ensure results. The Human Resources Manager will partner with their clients to analyze business needs, make recommendations and support decision making in partnership with the client group and the Human Resources team as appropriate. The Human Resources Manager will drive and/or participate in regional initiatives as identified. The role will lead the day-day local human resources activities in close cooperation with the local and headquarters leadership team in order to support the business operations in these countries.


The incumbent will be expected to establish and maintain productive working relationships with client groups and colleagues locally and globally.  We are looking for a professional with experience working in a global business environment, who doesn’t mind being operationally focused, and who demonstrates a thoughtful and tactful approach. The ideal candidate has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience working in international companies with a global business environment. Ideal candidates • Have at least 2 years’ experience as an HR Manager or Generalist in a French company; • have experience in a media environment and are used to working with French Works Councils; • are experienced in using HRIS systems such as SAP and SuccessFactors; • can provide coaching, guidance, and conflict management resolution to employees and managers; • are up-to-date on the French labor law; experiences at managing external legal consultants for employment related matters; • are familiar with payroll management in France; • communicate fluently in French and English in speaking and writing - other languages are valued. This role will be a member of the Global HR group and reports to the Director, Human Resources Global, who is based in the US. There are no direct reports in the role; occasional travel may be required. We are looking for a capable team member to join team.

Key deliverables:


• Lead implementation, administration and operation of functional Human Resources services.

• Provide quality service and results as it pertains to HR core functional knowledge of employee relations, recruitment, performance management, compensation, benefits and training and development where appropriate.

• Ensure that employee issues are handled in a consistent manner with limited exposure to the Company.

• Develop strategies and tactics to support development and manage performance problems and opportunities

Provide effective coaching, counseling and progressive disciplinary strategies on all ER issues, up to and including terminations.

Leverage available recruiting tools and technology to optimize quality of hires.

Oversee disability and leave case management for her/his client group

• As needed, conduct site visits to identify opportunities and underlying issues and partner with business leaders to find solutions/correction plans.

• Identify and respond to trends within client groups, using HR data were available alongside any qualitative resources to support findings (e.g. reasons for leaving, difficulties within teams).

• Consult with management on general employee relations issues and policy interpretation, including but not limited to policy/procedure, absence management, performance management, conflict resolution and contractual obligations.

• Conduct investigations, disciplinaries and grievances according to HR policy and local legislation. Provide expertise to complex/escalated cases. • Stay up to date on employment legislation and provide local insight to global Employee Relations team to develop policy, procedure and guidelines for the market.

• Partner with regional and corporate HR (e.g. Recruiting, Compensation, Benefits, HR Systems, Employee Relations, etc.) to manage projects to provide for solutions to European and local business needs.

• Coach and support team members to find solutions and share knowledge and best practice

• Support the facilitation of regular employee reviews with business leaders to develop talent strategies that support business plans. Review talent data to identify needs and gaps. Partner with business leaders to formulate and implement plans to address identified needs.

• Build productive relationships with relationship with external authorities such as Labor inspector, Labor doctor, etc.


Required Qualifications/

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

• Minimum of 5 years of HR experience with Generalist experience and prior knowledge of local laws.

• Legal authorization to work in France

• Demonstrated business acumen as it relates to in effective relationship management and influencing skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels in the organization.

• Strong customer-service orientation, ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and desire to deliver end to end solutions.

• Excellent technical skills; in-depth knowledge of applicant tracking technology and general Microsoft applications; familiarity with best practices in social networking; ability to leverage technology to attract candidates and drive effective and efficient operations

• Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate and foster relationships with all levels within an organization.

• Fluency in French and English languages


Preferred Qualifications

• Industry specific experience (news agencies, newspapers, or other multiformat media organization)

• Experience providing HR support in a field location or through other HR Professionals is an advantage

• Additional European languages are advantageous.


This is a short term/temporary contract position expected to last 12 months.
