Why this role matters: This role provides the final set of eyes on every piece of video content that AP publishes across platforms, and represents our last line of defense to ensure that our output meets AP’s journalistic standards for accuracy, speed, balance and fact-based, objective reporting. 

 

What you will do: You will be a key member of AP’s new 24/7 global production hub, as the final set of eyes on every piece of video content that AP publishes across platforms. You will ensure that AP’s video edits and metadata meet its journalistic standards for accuracy, speed, balance and fact-based, objective reporting, whether they are intended for AP customers or online audiences. You will review video edits and scripts and craft sharp headlines and punchy leads. You will offer guidance and support to producers on editorial and technical standards, including best practices in storyline writing and video editing structure. 

 

Who you are: 

Required Qualifications 

  • Deep experience in creating compelling visual narratives, and superb technical skills in video production to ensure the correct structure, flow, and technical quality of video edits. 

  • Excellent news judgement and a keen understanding of unbiased, objective, fact-based eyewitness reporting. 

  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English, including strong writing skills to review and edit headlines, story summaries, shot lists and other metadata for accuracy, clarity and quality. 

  • Excellent communication skills to mentor and guide producers on all aspects of video production and scriptwriting. 

  • Ability to communicate and drive stories that people want to share, like and discuss on social media and other platforms. 

  • Have a deep understanding of the international and U.S. news agendas. 

  • Thrive in a breaking news environment and have a track record of delivering under deadline pressure. 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least three years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk. 

  • Authorization to work in India is mandatory. 

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across formats, and deliver on complex and challenging storylines. 

  •  As AP is a 24/7 global news organization, you must be willing and able to work regular overnight and weekend shifts. 

 

What will set you apart:  

  • Familiarity with verification of user-generated content, including reverse image search, geolocation and other tools. 

  • Experience working with a major international news organization is a plus. 

  • Professional competency in world languages other than English is a plus.
