Role Overview:
The Vice President of Content Products & Platforms is responsible for overseeing the strategy, development, and delivery of the AP’s products and services portfolio and the platforms that enable seamless content creation, distribution, and customer access. This role plays a critical part in defining and implementing content and platform roadmaps that align with AP's digital-first strategy objectives and the needs of its customers.
In this newly created role, you will lead a team of product and platform experts to implement and manage leading-edge curated digital content offerings that leverage innovative technologies, including AI, to drive significant revenue growth, diversification and retention, while also maximizing reduced time-to-market and effective cost management. They will drive the seamless integration between product development and technological innovation ensuring that revenue strategies are deeply aligned with technical capabilities, enabling the rapid development of scalable, high-performance digital products.
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, this role is central in coordinating efforts across three key departments: News, Revenue and Technology.
This is a hybrid role base in AP’s NYC headquarters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy & Leadership:
- Lead the ideation, development and launch of innovative digital transformation roadmaps by utilizing market and customer-driven insights.
- Develop and communicate a clear vision for content curation and delivery that supports the AP’s “Digital-First Journalism” goals and aligns with the overall news, revenue and technology strategies.
- Design and oversee the implementation of leading-edge digital experiences across the platforms servicing the content supply chain.
- Collaborate with the executive team to define go-to-market priorities and long-term goals.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape and technology innovation to inform product strategies.
- Development & Innovation:
- Oversee ideation, development and launch of innovative and curated content formats into packages and offerings aligned with modern forms of digital consumption and experience (e.g. mobile, social media, aggregators, streaming services, AI platforms).
- Drive a customer-centric approach to platform design and development, ensuring a seamless and engaging digital experience.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, including the use of GenAI and machine learning technologies and incorporating them into the AP’s digital roadmap.
- Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Work closely with News, Revenue and the other Technology teams to ensure product alignment with business needs and technical feasibility.
- Coordinate with data teams to leverage analytics and insights for informed product decisions.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure product and service development aligns with broader company goals.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing product leadership team.
- Promote professional growth and development opportunities for team members.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary liaison for key stakeholders, including executive leadership, editorial and business teams, external partners.
- Clearly communicate product vision, progress, and outcomes to all stakeholders.
- Performance & Metrics:
- Establish and track key product metrics to measure success and inform future product decisions.
- Ensure that all products are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of digital product or core platform experience within the media or technology industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Understanding of modern media landscape and content consumption models that leverage technology, interactivity, and audience engagement.
- Understanding of business models and product lifecycle management in the media sector.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data and metrics to drive decision-making and measure success.
- Understanding of how AI can be infused into products and services.
- Strong leadership skills with experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with and ability to quickly gain the respect of stakeholders around the business.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record of developing and launching successful digital products, within the media or news industry
- Understanding digital media economy and business models
- Understanding of the US and international news ecosystem
- Technical experience in software development or systems architecture
Salary & Benefits: The anticipated salary range for this position is $233,000 – $283,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors.
