The Associated Press seeks a Senior Designer based in New York, New York.


The Senior Designer is a visual thinker, leader, and creator that creates and executes innovative design solutions across a diverse portfolio of engagement. The Senior Designer creates and expertly manages brand-aligned, conceptually-strong, content-forward communications. The Senior Designer serves as a design and brand ambassador, building relationships with internal departments and teams to inform, direct and guide marketing projects, ensure brand consistency, and achieve project goals and objectives. The Senior Designer reports to the Global Creative Director and works collaboratively with Creative/Marketing staff.



  • Create innovative, comprehensive, content-aligned creative solutions; flexibly translate and interpret brand strategy and business objectives into comprehensive design solutions and compelling visual concepts
  • Elevate and maintain the integrity and excellence of the AP brand in all communications; educate and champion the brand with internal/external audiences
  • Lead and execute creative assignments independently, from project inception through completion across a wide range of communications (digital, print, environmental)
  • Work in consultation with the Creative Director and Operations/Project Manager to manage Marketing project workflow and timelines — defining and shaping project scope and schedules in alignment with external development/production requirements and schedules
  • Protect, maintain and innovate creative processes and workflows that ensure accuracy and quality across all deliverables, maintaining a steadfast attention to detail, deadlines and budgets
  • Compellingly and engagingly present creative work, leading meetings, presentations and discussions in a clear, focused manner that educates, advocates, and fosters the exchange of ideas
  • Actively engage and build a strong, positive team culture and environment, exhibiting a positive attitude that represents the Creative/Marketing team and AP favorably and professionally.



  • Graduate or undergraduate degree in related art or design major
  • 7+ years of digital and print design experience
  • Proven and varied design portfolio demonstrating comprehensive print and electronic communications (campaigns from inception to completion); brand identity, digital advertising, environmental graphic design, business-to-business client experience a plus
  • Superior analytical, conceptual, and design abilities — your work is idea- and content-driven and is as smart as it is visually compelling
  • Excellent hands-on design and typography skills; demonstrated ability creating communications systems, templates and grids a plus
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; Adobe XD and HTML coding/CSS proficiency a plus
  • Deep understanding of interactive experiences and web technology
  • Demonstrated experience with open source CMS platforms
  • Excellent written communications and presentation skills — must have proven experience communicating design concepts and strategic thinking in a clear, focused, jargon-free, and engaging manner
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills — you are a considerate collaborator, 
    a valued partner and team player
  • Keen interest in the variety and complexity of AP’s work and mission

This position will be managed from AP’s New York City headquarters.  Due to Covid restrictions, we are currently working on a remote basis.  When the restrictions are lifted, the successful applicant will work from AP’s New York office.


Authorization to work in the U.S. for any employer is mandatory. Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.
