The Associated Press seeks a Product Manager in its Text and New Markets Products team. This is a new position focused on supporting AP’s products related to grants, commercial opportunities and existing text products suite.


The Product Manager will be responsible for managing the full life cycle for several products that include texts, photos, videos and other formats. These products are delivered to all media customer types across newspapers, broadcast and digital. The Product Manager will also help lead audience development efforts to bring more attention to AP’s products and work closely with sales teams on revenue growth.


The Product Manager will serve as a key liaison between customers, editorial, sales, sales operations, marketing, technology and other departments to ensure smooth creation, packaging and delivery of our award-winning content. S/he will handle day-to-day product needs while providing recommendations for product improvements or new products based on customer feedback, market trends and competitive intelligence.



  • Manage an existing suite of products focused on specific vertical content (such as business news, entertainment or lifestyles).
  • Conduct regular outreach to customers and prospective customers to identify feedback and needs. Works closely with AP sales to share and synthesize the feedback to inform future product priorities and projects.
  • Perform market research in support of product definition and requirements gathering.
  • Develop product/business scope recommendations and resulting content/personnel requirements.
  • With business development colleagues, identify emerging markets, players and opportunities and assist with strategic positioning of AP to fully capitalize on those, whether through new products and offerings or new content and services partnerships.
  • Partner with key staff in multiple departments to coordinate the development and delivery of updated/new products, including the following departments: News, Sales, Technology/project management, Products, Marketing, Finance, Support, Strategy.
  • Oversee product development enhancements to ensure they are completed on time and on budget.
  • Oversee POCs and testing with selected client participants.
  • Provide analytics and performance updates of platform to key stakeholders.
  • Set and maintain support standards and work with Customer Support department to meet those standards.
  • Participate in customer retention and lead customer engagement for products in the portfolio.



  • The ideal candidate gets excited about problem solving and working with customers to identify needs and gaps.
  • S/he should be a resourceful self-starter with exceptional communication skills. Should be able to communicate ideas and complex information clearly and effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Should be comfortable quickly testing ideas and not be afraid to fail.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • 2-5 years product management, journalism and/or media sales experience strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with AP’s content production and newsroom workflow a plus.



Other qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
