The Product Director, Data and Analytics is a leadership position, serving as a key part of the Consumer Product and Technology team—tasked with overseeing the AP’s B2C data and analytics strategy, driving data privacy compliance, and identifying and driving strategic data initiatives on emerging platforms and new consumer technologies.

 

This position will lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with senior stakeholders to define requirements for dashboards, reporting, and other data strategy initiatives. This person will also be responsible for defining strategic initiatives and goals for executive leadership, with an emphasis on driving investment, revenue growth, and customer engagement. They will also work closely with the Director of Product, Development and Growth, and VP, Consumer Product and Technology to help define the roadmap for the Technology team and help balance strategic product goals with tactical ones.

 

Key Areas of Focus

 

 

  • Drive B2C growth and revenue through the development and implementation of first-party data tools and platforms. 

  • Leverage data and analytics tools to democratize access to data and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. 

  • Own and maintain strict data privacy compliance and best practices, partnering with legal to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards. 

  • Manage key partnerships with vendors and entities like Google, Parse.ly, Permutive, etc. that are key to driving growth and innovation  

  • Responsible for vetting new vendors and product tools for data and analytics initiatives 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

  • Develop and implement the AP's B2C data strategy, with a focus on collecting, managing, and leveraging first-party data inline with business goals 

  • Oversee the establishment and management of a Data Management Platform (DMP) and a Customer Data Platform (CDP) 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements for dashboards, reporting, and other data strategy initiatives 

  • Collaborate with engineering team to drive evolution of first-party data platform from a technical perspective 

  • Collaborate with senior-level stakeholders to develop and implement the organization's data-driven decision-making processes 

  • Work with legal to ensure data privacy compliance, leveraging OneTrust and other tools and processes 

  • Implement and leverage web and mobile analytics tools, such as Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Looker, to analyze traffic and user behavior 

  • Define and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the success of data strategy and emerging products initiatives 

  • Manage a team of data analysts, web analysts, and product managers to ensure successful execution of initiatives 

  • Present data insights and project updates to executive leadership and key stakeholders 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in product management, preferably in the media or news industry.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading data and analytics teams and driving B2C growth

  • Experience working with Data Management Platforms (DMPs) and Customer Data Platforms (CDPs).

  • History of working with cross-functional teams including engineering, legal, and senior stakeholders.

  • Deep understanding of data platforms and analytics tools, such as Google Tag Manager (GTM), Looker, Parse.ly, Permutive, and OneTrust.

  • Proficiency in developing and overseeing the establishment of dashboards, reporting tools, and other data strategy initiatives.

  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations and best practices in data handling and storage.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the capability to inspire and drive team performance.

  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex data findings to executive leadership and other key stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated capability to identify new market opportunities and strategic initiatives on emerging platforms.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
     

The anticipated salary range for this position is $175,000 – $195,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
