The weekend manager must have the ability and willingness to work at night, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

  • have demonstrated expertise in fact-checking questionable information and visuals through the use of forensic tools as well as traditional reporting techniques.
  • have a demonstrated history of success as a driver of coverage, with a record of creating and delivering compelling work on deadline.
  • work with a team of reporters and editors to deliver facts-focused reporting that breaks news, has impact and is exclusive to AP.
  • have a history of successful work as an editor, with the ability to assess information quickly, coach reporters through assignments and edit text stories to a high standard of quality.
  • have strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with AP journalists who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.
  • have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate stories that people will want to share and engage with on social media and other platforms.
  • pursue innovative coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.

Qualifications: The weekend manager must have demonstrated excellence as an editor and/or manager, with a record of creating and/or guiding exclusive and distinctive news from inception to publication. Applicants must be able to work collaboratively with reporters, photographers, video journalists, producers and editors to identify strong story opportunities and execute on them. The candidate must be able to work swiftly and accurately under tight deadlines, and help other team members to do the same. Applicants must have experience with digital verification tools and methods used to fact-check misleading information across multiple formats. The successful candidate should have at least five years of full-time experience as an editor or reporter at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.

    Other qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.
