We’re looking for a Manager, Product Design to help lead the design and development of AP’s consumer-facing news products. This is a key leadership role that works across technology, business, and content teams to create and implement world-class digital experiences across the AP News platform. You’ll play a central role in reimagining how AP connects with its global audience and how our journalists deliver trusted news in compelling ways.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and hands-on designer who is deeply user-focused and passionate about news, design, and innovation. You’ll be comfortable leading projects from concept to execution, skilled in both UX and UI, and able to balance creative vision with practical implementation.
Responsibilities:
· Design creative solutions that drive user engagement and support business goals across AP platforms, including web, mobile apps, and newsletters.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, engineering, editorial, marketing) to deliver high-quality designs that align with brand standards and user needs.
· Own the end-to-end product design process—from discovery and ideation to prototyping, testing, and final implementation.
· Establish and maintain design consistency across all digital touchpoints, contributing to and evolving AP’s design system with scalable, modular components.
· Use qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions and iterate on solutions.
· Champion accessibility and inclusive design to ensure experiences are usable by all audiences.
· Contribute to ongoing discovery efforts, including user interviews, usability testing, and A/B experiments.
· Influence product strategy through user-centered thinking and a deep understanding of consumer needs.
· Stay current with industry best practices, tools, and technologies, applying them to improve the user experience.
· Mentor and manage other design specialists, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Qualifications:
· 5–7 years of experience designing consumer digital products across web and mobile platforms.
· Strong portfolio demonstrating UX and UI capabilities, including interaction design, visual design, and prototyping.
· Proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma and a solid understanding of component-based design systems.
· Experience leading cross-functional design initiatives from discovery through delivery.
· Knowledge of accessibility best practices and responsive design principles.
· Strong collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
· Experience mentoring or managing other designers is a plus.

The annual salary for this position will be between $105,000 and $127,000 based on skills, qualifications and market location. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan and employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
