The Associated Press is seeking a Information Security Engineer to join its team in New York City.


Reporting to the Deputy Director of Information Security this Information Security Engineer will collaborate closely with business and editorial stakeholders; development and infrastructure teams to deliver innovative security solutions. 


Position Summary:

The Information Security Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, implementation, and support of cybersecurity solutions for protecting services, applications, and users. This position will contribute to the overall cybersecurity program, strategy with an emphasis on cloud architecture and supporting technologies.


A successful candidate will be passionate, curious, and self-driven. Given a problem, you must have the drive to identify creative ways to solve problems.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research, design, and implement cybersecurity solutions for organization systems and services that comply with all applicable security policies and standards
  • Consult and advise our engineering teams to drive secure design, deployment, maintenance of our cloud-based applications
  • Assist in responding to customer and end user concerns, penetration tests and vulnerability assessments
  • Monitor systems and logs for security breaches and investigate anomalies when they occur
  • Make recommendations to improve security & business processes, application architectures and introduction of new technologies that will effectively protect the enterprise and help prevent data loss and service interruptions
  • Collaborate on developing cybersecurity awareness campaigns across the organization that cover end user training, educational programs, and cybersecurity-related communications.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of overall cybersecurity experience
  • Experience with AWS, Azure cloud technologies
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python, Bash or PowerShell
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM), and networking technologies
  • Understanding of agile, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps in AWS environment
  • Strong critical thinking, deductive reasoning, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field
  • CISSP, CISM or equivalent qualifications preferred


Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.   Authorization to work in the United States is mandatory.
