The Associated Press seeks a Hyperion Systems Analyst to join the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team.
This role serves as the functional support person for Hyperion (financial system used for budgeting) working in close partnership with Technology. The role involves writing/updating scripts (MaxL and Essbase Calculation Scripts), user training, maintenance of data structure reporting and hierarchies. Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience with Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Planning and Smart View is required.
The Hyperion Systems Analyst is a member of the FP&A team and will be provided a unique opportunity to acquire financial analysis skills, work on special projects and help the team gain work efficiencies utilizing system automation. Finding areas where the system can drive efficiencies in workflow and ways to support that work efficiently will be a key indicator of success.
The successful candidate will be quick to understand new concepts and is a results-oriented, hands-on professional able to deal with shifting priorities under tight deadlines.
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, this position is ideally based out of our New York, NY headquarters and will work a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days in the office. Remote work from other select locations may be considered for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Be the Hyperion functional support expert, including data structure understanding, maintaining hierarchies, facilitating security, writing/updating scripts, user training, ability to trouble shoot issues and work with technology to resolve.
- Determine operational objectives by studying business functions, gathering information, and conferring with finance teams and business leaders, assessing procedures and processes.
- Identify ways to improve performance by preparing and evaluating alternative workflow solutions.
- Establish specifications, coordinate production with programmers and validate results by testing programs.
- Ensure operation by conducting system training for FP&A staff and support.
- Provide reference by writing documentation.
- Provide deliverables in a timely manner.
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of data into cohesive management-ready analyses, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Work on ad hoc and special projects, including financial analysis and modeling, establishing metrics to measure performance, and support business planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience with Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Planning and Smart View is required
- Working knowledge of financial statements; accounting theories, practices, and GAAP
- Superior analytical, problem-solving, decision-making skills and comfortable working with large amounts of data
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Must be able to work effectively on an independent basis and in a team environment
- Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple priorities with conflicting deadlines
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Comfortable communicating to finance directors and staff
Systems Requirements
- Hands on with Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Planning and Smart View is required
- Knowledge of Substitution Variables Essbase Data Load Rules
- Familiarity with Essbase Administrative Console
- Proficient in SAP (or similar business management software)
- Proficient in Excel. High degree of familiarity with managing data via pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.
- Working knowledge of Power Point, Word, and Outlook
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000 — contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
