The Associated Press is seeking a Financial Analyst to join our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team, with a focus on leveraging AI and automation tools to drive smarter headcount planning, streamline grant reporting, and deliver faster, deeper business insights. This role blends core FP&A expertise with next-generation analytics skills, helping AP enhance efficiency, accuracy, and strategic decision-making.

 

You will partner with Finance, HR, and the Philanthropy team to build AI-enabled models, automate reporting workflows, and ensure compliance with donor and organizational requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead headcount and workforce financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Apply AI/ML tools (e.g., ChatGPT Enterprise, MS Copilot, Power BI AI) to streamline forecasting, automate commentary, and enhance scenario modeling.
  • Design and implement scalable, automated processes for headcount and grant reporting.
  • Monitor grant-funded staffing allocations and ensure budget alignment with donor requirements.
  • Analyze budget vs. forecast vs. actuals, leveraging AI-assisted variance analysis to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards that highlight workforce trends, cost implications, and predictive insights.
  • Collaborate with HR and IT to ensure high-quality data governance and AI-ready datasets.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in financial analysis, preferably with headcount and/or grant planning exposure.
  • Strong background in financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis, with proven ability to apply AI tools for efficiency gains.
  • Advanced Excel plus experience with Hyperion, SAP, Oracle Essbase, Power BI, and AI-enabled analytics platforms.
  • Ability to translate large datasets into predictive and actionable insights using AI/ML.
  • Experience in automation (e.g., Python, UiPath, Power Automate) a strong plus.
  • Self-starter, adaptable, and comfortable working at the intersection of finance and technology.

 

Salary & Benefits 

The anticipated salary range for this position is $105,000 - $120,000 contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
