The Associated Press seeks a Director of Global Procurement for its New York City office.

 

The Director is responsible for global sourcing strategies and activities.  This includes managing, executing, evaluating, negotiating and selecting vendors with consideration of price, quality, delivery and service; resolving vendor discrepancies regarding quality, quantity and pricing. The successful candidate has the ability to maximize the company’s operational efficiencies through vendor re-negotiations. Additionally, this person will be responsible for managing global systems and processes for consolidation and reporting of key financial information that facilitate effective decision-making.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage AP’s Procurement, Purchasing, and Contract Management while instituting best practice and industry standards, maximizing saving, and contributing to the ongoing development of global procurement.
  • Manage buyers and the travel program team, define responsibilities, set goals, empower the team to meet those goals and hold them accountable for results.
  • Monitor company-wide procurement of assigned goods and/or services to maximize leverage internally and externally to ensure “the best value, at the lowest price” is consistently achieved.
  • Identify, develop and nurture value added relationships with key vendors and maintain an established network of contacts.
  • Creating and expediting purchase orders as needed, generating requests for quotes (RFQs) and/or proposals (RFPs).
  • Identify, develop and manage effective professional relationships with suppliers and internal business partners and proactively leverage those relationships to stay abreast of internal needs and landscapes of best applicable solutions available in the marketplace.
  • Develop and implement cost saving and cost avoidance initiatives.
  • Track savings monthly through active, dynamic leadership.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.
  • Additional professional qualification – legal or business preferred
  • Qualified applicants must have progressive purchasing experience with a global organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise procurement principles and techniques including internal requirements gathering, market analysis and research, supplier evaluation, service level and deal evaluations (i.e. pricing, terms and conditions, etc.), financial analysis, preparation of RFIs/RFPs, etc. is required.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required.
  • Must be able to work effectively on an independent basis and in a team environment.
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to handle multiple priorities with conflicting deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of the corporate travel market.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. A working knowledge of an Electronic Purchase Requisition (EPR) system – SAP and SAP SRM preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and generate statistical information, create and deliver business presentations and write comprehensive reports is essential.
  • Social and interpersonal skills necessary to create/maintain global supplier relationships, resolve conflicting and emotional situations and create/maintain a working environment conducive for teamwork across all business functions.
  • Experience managing a team
  • A proven leader with experience of influencing and presenting to senior management

 

Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.  Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory
