The AP seeks a global Human Resources (HR) Director to serve as a strategic thought partner to assigned business units and to execute on HR related deliverables that align with strategic business initiatives.
This is an exciting time of transformation for the HR team, and we are seeking someone with a desire to develop innovative approaches in support of this transformation. The Director will act as a global strategic business partner to the leadership team of the News organization, to help translate business objectives into human capital strategies. This position will also manage a team of HR Managers that supports organizational business goals.
Working in partnership across the HR function, this role will provide support and guidance to management and staff on a wide range of HR related disciplines including employee and labor relations, performance & talent management, organizational design, recruiting, compensation, and learning & development.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as a global (US and International) strategic thought partner to the leadership team with a business-focused mindset to help translate business objectives to human capital strategies
- Provide support to employees in multiple geographic locations and partner with the HR team on planning and delivering HR programs and services to the business
- Provide proactive and strategic guidance and support for organizational planning and development initiatives
- Manage an HR team that supports organizational business goals
- Work with business leaders to build effective organizations (organizational design)
- Develop our leaders through ongoing coaching and feedback on personal and team performance
- Manage employee relations issues and seek/follow up with outside counsel as needed
- In partnership with the Director of Talent Management, support the implementation of talent and succession planning as well as development plans
- Provide support on merit planning and out of cycle compensation decisions (salary increases, promotions)
- In partnership with the HR Director of D & I, support the development of diversity and inclusion strategy for the News team to build cultural competence and a global mindset
- Integrate and prioritize work across HR stakeholders to ensure seamless day to day and long-term strategic HR delivery
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience working in human resources and 3+ years of experience working as HR Director business partner supporting a global team
- Experience working in a global environment and supporting businesses across multiple international geographies and cultures
- 3+ years of experience working in a media or news company a plus
- Experience working in a unionized environment required
- Proven track record of working with senior stakeholders to deliver HR outcomes
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Strong analytical skills
- Requires a high level of discretion and the ability to manage confidential information, exercise sound judgment and manage risk
- Effective relationship builder from the highest, executive levels to entry-level; able to influence important decisions
This position will be managed from AP’s New York City headquarters and the successful applicant would be based in New York.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $165,000 - $185,000 — contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
