More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.

This is a management position that will report directly to our Senior Director of Audiences and Engagement.

Why this role matters:

APNews.com is looking for a Director to serve as the second-in-command for audience execution across social platforms, video and digital presentation.

This is a senior newsroom leadership role focused on turning strategy into daily output while identifying new ways to grow both audience and revenue. You will oversee three critical areas: social platforms, video across platforms and on-site, and digital design and presentation.

You will also play a key role in developing creator partnerships and identifying monetization opportunities tied to audience growth, working closely with product and revenue teams.

You will work directly with the Senior Director of Audiences and Engagement to operationalize audience strategy, ensuring our journalism is not just published but seen, understood and valued across platforms.

What you will do:

  • Own execution across key audience surfaces

Translate audience strategy into daily output across social platforms, video and presentation. Ensure consistency in tone, quality and performance

  • Lead three core teams
    1. Social platforms
Oversee AP’s presence across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and emerging channels. Set daily priorities, guide platform-specific storytelling and ensure we are meeting audiences where they are.

    2. Video (on-platform and on-site)
Drive the strategy and execution of social video and video on APNews.com. Ensure video is timely, distinctive and aligned with audience behavior across platforms.

    3. Digital design and presentation
Lead the team responsible for infographics, visual storytelling and immersive formats. Raise the bar on how stories are packaged and experienced.

  • Identify and develop revenue opportunities
Work with product and revenue teams to identify ways audience growth can translate into revenue. This includes platform monetization, sponsorship opportunities, video packaging and new formats that drive both engagement and financial return.

  • Develop creator strategy and partnerships
Identify, recruit and work with creators to expand AP’s reach and storytelling. Build a clear approach to how creators contribute to AP’s journalism and audience growth across platforms.

  • Drive performance and accountability
Set clear expectations tied to audience KPIs such as reach, engagement, retention and contribution to revenue. Ensure teams understand what success looks like and adjust quickly when performance lags.

  • Establish repeatable workflows
Build systems that allow teams to operate with speed and clarity across time zones. Reduce friction between editorial, video, design and external partners.

  • Partner across the newsroom
Work closely with editors, product, analytics and revenue teams to align coverage with audience opportunity and business goals.

  • Develop talent and strengthen teams
Coach team leads, identify gaps and build a culture of ownership and accountability.

Who you are:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong newsroom leadership experience across audience, video or digital formats
