The Associated Press seeks a Digital Product Director, Visuals and Audio. This is a full time, US-based position in the New York office and reports to the Director, Global Visuals and Audio Products.


Encompassing AP’s video, photo and audio products across all regions, this role has a sharp focus on modernizing our portfolio to meet new opportunities and markets. The goals are to achieve new, sustainable revenue AND ensure that our product mix is in tune with market demands as technology, customers, competition and our resources undergo ongoing transformation.


The Director will collaborate with the Global Director to develop visuals/audio strategy, with a focus on digital and emerging markets, and will oversee execution of related plans. This role includes management of a Product Manager.


In executing plans, the Director will coordinate product-related efforts across numerous departments, including editorial, sales, technology, business development, finance and operations as well as among other product leaders. The Director will also work with customers and other stakeholders to develop and maintain a deep understanding of use cases, needs, opportunities and risks.


Key responsibilities:

  • Exceeding global revenue targets across product portfolio
  • Delivering consumer insights that drive product roadmaps and ensure our products evolve as our customers’ needs do
  • Analyzing market developments to identify opportunities and risks (such as OTT, IP digital, competition, resource contention)
  • Ensuring appropriate U.S. domestic and international product sets, combining and differentiating where needed
  • Evaluation and development/implementation of business models
  • Identifying and managing key strategic content and technology partners to expand AP’s product capabilities
  • Development/management of KPIs and tracking progress against them
  • Alignment with editorial management, especially on strategic adjustments to coverage and output for various regions and strategic products
  • Alignment with technology partners in the monitoring and evaluation of delivery methods, considering strategic possibilities
  • Protecting AP’s intellectual property and also protecting AP from IP risks



  • 5-7 years of experience in product management or digital strategy, specifically in a data-driven, decision-making role
  • Strong understanding of visuals technology throughout the supply chain as well as monetization and workflows. Awareness of relevant technical and business trends in digital markets
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and analytical skills on global-level projects
  • Financial analysis skills, including ability to project revenue/profit impacts of various pricing and revenue models
  • Facility with data and analysis to develop fact-driven plans and decisions
  • Comfort performing competitive analysis and ability to discern competitive position using market and direct data as well as customer research. Includes analysis of products & perceived value gap
  • Ability to turn product roadmaps into deliverable operational plans
  • Familiarity with different departments’ roles in product lifecycle and ability to work effectively with them
  • Proven record developing and managing successful relationships with customers, vendors and other partners
  • History of successful business judgement
  • Creativity, especially in managing complexity and with constrained resource
  • Thrives in and promotes a collaborative team environment
  • Experience with B2B content licensing and/or e-commerce licensing platforms a plus



Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.  Authorization to work in the US for any employer is mandatory.


The anticipated salary range for this position is $125,000 - $135,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors.  Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
