The Associated Press seeks a Audience Engagement Manager to join their Digital Products team.  This team manages the rapidly growing AP News platform which consists of the APNews.com site, AP News apps on iOS and Android and associated backend services.  The AP News platform is primed for the next phase of growth and needs a highly motivated individual that will build on existing data to introduce advanced support tools that drive user engagement, audience and revenue growth.   The Audience Engagement Manager will identify these opportunities and lead the development of these tools.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the overall strategies to grow top of funnel users as well as increase engagement to drive consumption within the AP News platform (iOS/Android/Web) through organic and paid channels
  • Analytically assess and report on platform traffic using Google Search Console, Moz, and Google Analytics
  • Develop traffic-building initiatives based on the latest news in digital publishing and SEO.
  • Develop a framework to manage, report and forecast growth and retention metrics on daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Manage content and headline-writing strategy for SEO best practices and driving traffic.  
  • Work closely with Editorial to instill best practices for engagement
  • Push forward initiatives affecting content, app/site layout on the front- and back-end of the platform to maximize audience development
  • Optimizing stories for search engines, building promotion plans for journalism projects

 

Experience:

  • Expertise in SEO best practices – passion for staying on top of the changes and trends in SEO
  • Understanding of SEO meta tags and their impact on content
  • Knowledge of the digital publishing landscape with a realistic view of potential content partnerships within reach
  • Experience using Google Analytics, Moz, and Google Search Console to monitor web analytics and search trends
  • Familiarity with content management systems
  • Proven track record in professional writing and editing
  • An eye for user experience and a forward-thinking strategic mindset toward improving the design, features, and content of the website
  • Appreciation for creative collaboration – comfort working with a team and lending a hand on team projects
  • Confidence and adaptability – the ability to propose new initiatives, monitor their success, and make changes when needed
  • Passion for digital information consumption and a keen interest in participating in ongoing efforts to find the most useful, interesting ways to present content to users around the world
  • Focused, with the ability to multi-task and hit time-sensitive release dates and deadlines
  • 3 years growing audience for a digital property in a strategic and/or content-focused role
  • Bachelor’s degree required in related field

 

This position will be managed from AP’s New York City headquarters.  Due to Covid restrictions, we are currently working on a remote basis.  When the restrictions are lifted, the successful applicant will work from AP’s New York office.
