The Associated Press is seeking an assistant operations manager to work in our U.S. Elections business. The AP provides local and national U.S. election results, including AP-declared winners and pertinent data and research to all major media companies and other subscribers around the world. This job is a support role for the head of the department and other managers.


The job involves budget tracking, project and customer management, contract reviews, and assisting with onboarding and hiring vendors and contractors. This work will ebb and flow as we prepare for state primary elections with a big lead up to the general elections in November.



  • Assist with oversight of monthly expenses, tracking current month costs and forecasting monthly and quarterly expenses.
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete reports and deliverables.
  • Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of vendor and contractor statements of work.
  • Assist with onboarding of seasonal contractors.
  • Track contracts and edge use cases.
  • Assist with interviewing vendors and seasonal hires.
  • Participate in progress reviews for senior management.
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred with 4+ years of relevant work experience
  • Direct experience weighted more heavily than specific degree achieved
  • Experience with contracts, documentations, and tracking expenses.
  • Willing and available to work off hours with flex time considerations for slower work periods.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail in composing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a performance-based environment.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

The successful applicant will work on a hybrid schedule out of AP’s New York City headquarters.  


Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
