The Associated Press is seeking a Technician to be located in our Los Angeles, CA bureau.  


The technician will provide support for cross media equipment for both internal and external customers. This includes support of all technology deployed at a specified location and other offices. In addition, support of local infrastructure such as phone, network, conference rooms, and power systems as required.  


Technical Environment: 

Travel may be required for scheduled maintenance and/or emergency events and breaking news coverage. Work hours may include evenings, holidays and/or weekends. 24 x 7 emergency service response as required.  Assignments may require working at heights, use of a ladder and some heavy lifting.



  • Provide support to a consistently high standard over a broad range of technology across all media types (online, text, photos, graphics, audio, and video)
  • Active member of the Global Help Desk escalation and reporting processes
  • Support of identified mobile devices
  • Installation and support of phone instruments
  • Liaise with the Telecoms team on system admin changes
  • Support of all technology types as required across both the Windows and Mac platforms
  • Available on-call 24x7 as required via company mobile phone
  • Visit customer sites sometimes over long distances and at short notice
  • Accurately record all support activities in the AP’s support ticketing systems
  • Track AP assets according to audit and compliance procedures including necessary maintenance of asset records
  • Support special and breaking news events as requested
  • Work with the broadcast engineers as required, in the routine maintenance and installations of broadcast equipment



Must possess excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to take initiative. 


  • Technical 2 -year college degree is desired
  • 2-3 years’ successful experience in a similar role is required
  • Proven record providing excellent customer service
  • Working knowledge of MS Windows and MAC platforms
  • Good understanding of physical networking (LAN wiring / electrical, etc.)
  • Ability to support wireless and mobile devices
  • Ability to work with users of all levels
  • Understanding of editorial and newsroom operations preferred
  • Understanding of video and conferencing equipment preferred
  • Familiarity with web and cloud technologies
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Solid prioritization and time management skills
  • Works effectively even when under pressure
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision
  • Ability to work a variable schedule and be on-call if required
  • Travel is required, sometimes on short notice
  • Valid driver’s license


Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.  Authorization to work in the US for any employer is mandatory.
