Why this role matters:

 

The Associated Press is looking for a Senior Newsletter Editor to shape our largest daily send to our loyal audience, the Morning Wire. 

 

Based in London, this editor will work closely with our London-based writer to curate AP’s exceptional global journalism for this engaged and growing audience. We are looking for someone with deep and comprehensive news judgment and extensive experience with US digital habits. You will curate and edit for this morning newsletter, and spot stories, photos and videos that we’ll use in other newsletters throughout the week. You’ll need line editing experience and solid headline writing skills. You need to be comfortable sorting through a firehouse of content to identify and prioritize the stories we need for newsletter audiences. 

 

This job will also entail working with audience metrics and most importantly we’ll need you to be able to use your strong news experience to connect the dots in ways that will help us best serve our growing audiences. You’ll work closely with other newsletter team members, as well as our partners in product, design, the engagement team and global news desks. You will report to the Newsletter Editor in New York and work closely on launching additional newsletters and refine ones in our existing portfolio. You will have your hands on several other newsletters during the week as needed, wearing multiple hats from production to editing. 

 

What you will do: 

  • Curate and edit the Morning Wire, AP’s flagship daily morning newsletter, selecting and prioritizing the strongest journalism for a large and loyal U.S. audience. 

  • Work closely with the Morning Wire writer to shape each edition, including story selection, framing, headlines and presentation. 

  • Apply strong news judgment and line editing skills to make AP journalism clear, engaging and useful for newsletter audiences. 

  • Monitor AP’s global news report and identify the stories, photos and videos that should be featured in Morning Wire and other newsletters. 

  • Use audience data and analytics alongside editorial judgment to understand what serves newsletter readers and identify opportunities to deepen engagement and loyalty.

  • Help shape and refine AP’s broader newsletter portfolio, including contributing to the development and launch of new newsletters. 

  • Edit, produce and support other AP newsletters as needed, moving comfortably between curation, editing and production responsibilities. 

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the newsletter team, global news desks, engagement, product and design to strengthen AP’s newsletter offerings. 

  • Bring a strong understanding of U.S. news and digital audience habits while recognizing the global stories and perspectives that matter to U.S. readers. 

  • Help maintain AP’s standards for accuracy, fairness, speed and editorial excellence across all newsletter products. 

 

Who you are: 

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in reporting, editing, line editing or assignment desk roles, including significant recent experience with U.S. politics or general news for a large U.S. audience. 

  • You have a degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience. 

  • You have deep and comprehensive news judgment, strong line editing and headline writing skills and a high level of comfort with international news. 

  • You are skilled at quickly sorting through a large volume of news and identifying the stories, visuals and developments that matter most to a specific audience. 

  • You have hands-on experience using audience analytics at a large news organization and can combine data with editorial judgment to make decisions and solve problems for distinct audiences. 

  • You have demonstrated experience programming journalism for loyal and highly engaged audiences. Experience with app audiences and news alerts is a plus. 

  • You understand U.S. digital news habits and how audiences discover, consume and engage with journalism. 

  • You are comfortable collaborating across editorial, product, design and audience teams and can work effectively in a fast-moving global newsroom. 

 

Hours: 

This is a Monday through Friday job, with the bulk of the shift before the 7 a.m. ET send time for Morning Wire. AP requires three days per week in the office.
