Location: Jerusalem, IL

Company: Associated Press

The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.

The Associated Press seeks a journalist with a history of successful television and online video storytelling to join AP as a video output producer based in Jerusalem. Reporting to the senior producer in Jerusalem, you will primarily produce, write and edit video stories for AP’s global broadcast, digital and mobile customers and platforms. This is a temporary role lasting three months, with the possibility to extend.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will be responsible for safeguarding video edits and storylines in meeting AP’s journalistic standards for accuracy, speed, balance and fact-based, objective reporting. You will use video, graphics and editing techniques to deliver visual engaging journalism, working in close collaboration with all-formats staff in the AP’s Middle East region and around the world. As members of a dynamic, round-the-clock operation, you must also contribute reporting in other media formats — including text, photos and audio — to help produce a competitive and comprehensive all-formats news report. You must have the ability and willingness to work any shift, including at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

We’re looking for a producer who will:

  • demonstrate superior skills in video production and editing, working under pressure to prioritize and publish video to customers accessing content via different platforms amid the chaos of breaking news.

  • provide creative feedback on how to sequence video in compelling ways, drawing upon a track record of conceptualizing and implementing creative digital projects.

  • exercise excellent editorial judgement, a robust knowledge of regional and global news and a commitment to high production values, with the ability to drive stories that people will want to watch and share.

  • have strong communication skills and work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.

  • pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.

Preferred Qualifications: The video producer must possess advanced individual technical skills in the creation and editing of video content, as well as the ability to work within an all-formats team to apply those skills from start to finish on breaking news and short- and long-term projects. You should have strong experience editing non-linear videos, preferably with Adobe Premiere. You must work effectively in a deadline driven, dynamic and competitive newsroom environment, and you should understand how video content is consumed across a variety of devices and platforms.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least three years of full-time news experience as a video producer and/or editor at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.

  • Authorization to work in Israel will be mandatory.

  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English and Hebrew.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats.

We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use a cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.

Application Deadline: April 30 , 2024 @ 11:59 PM ET
