Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as D3.js, Svelte, or React.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Ability to use design tools to create data visualizations (e.g., Adobe After Effects and Illustrator)
  • Experience with data visualization libraries
  • Knowledge of mapping tools and libraries
  • Familiarity with APIs and data formats such as JSON, CSV, and Geo JSON.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable code and troubleshoot technical issues efficiently.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to rapidly evolving stories.
  • Understanding of news values, ethics, and how to present data-driven stories responsibly.
  • Ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in journalism, information design, or related fields.
  • Experience in Newsrooms, preferably with five or more years in a fast-paced news or media environment.
  • Experience with backend technologies such as Python, Node.js, or SQL.
  • Experience with multimedia storytelling, including audio and video integration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; with the ability to troubleshoot and iterate quickly under pressure.
  • Comfortable working on cross-functional teams with designers, developers, and journalists.
  • Ability to learn and apply new tools and technologies as needed.

We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use a cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.

Application deadline is March 24, 2025 at 11:59pm EST.
